CITY: Chears paces Scott victory

Vershawn Chears poured in 33 points last night to lead Scott to a 77-73 City League victory over Central Catholic at the Sullivan Center.

James Walker added 18 for the Bulldogs.

Central s Dan Amato nearly matched Chears, scoring 30 points.

Zack Hartle backed Amato with 14 points and Steve Phillips grabbed 10 rebounds.

Scott led 33-32 at the half, then outscored the Irish 26-19 in the third quarter. But Central fought back and stayed close.

The Irish made 24 of 29 foul shots, with Amato canning 11. Scott went 17 of 22 from the line with Walker hitting eight.

St. John s Jesuit led 10-5 after one quarter and 33-13 at the half.

B.J. Raymond paced the Titans (3-0, 1-0) with 14 points. Brian Roberts and Andrew Taylor added 11 apiece.

The Titans won easily despite scoring just four points from the foul line. Whitmer made 11.

Jermaine Fletcher paced Whitmer with 22 points.

Andy Smith scored 28 points, including seven treys, to pace the unbeaten Rebels.

Kenny Rivers added 10 points for Bowsher (3-0, 1-0).

Justin Morris led Start (1-1, 0-1) with 19 points and Jermaine Powell added 10.

Morris has three treys, but with Smith s big night from beyond the arc, the Rebels made 10 to Start s six.

Bowsher also had a 15-5 advantage in made foul shots.

Clay (2-0) shot 60 percent from the floor en route to the victory.

Brett McDougle led the way for Clay with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Devin Scarborough added 17 points and eight boards.

Derek Spencer and Wes Taylor contributed nine points each for the Eagles.

Darrion Griffin posted 15 points, Sean Hamilton 10 and Robert Harrison nine for Waite (2-1).
