SLL: Diekman sparks victory by Genoa

GENOA - Zach Diekman scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Genoa past Eastwood 58-41 last night in a Suburban Lakes League game.

The Comets (1-3, 1-1) got nine points each from Jeremy Moritz and Tom Bizjack.

The Eagles (1-2, 1-1) were paced by Brandon Snyder with 12 and Kevin Leady with 11.

Genoa shot 57 percent (20 of 35) from the floor including 7 of 12 from 3-point range. Eastwood made 31 percent (18 of 57). At the foul line, the Comets were 11 of 27 to the Eagles 2 of 3.

ELMORE - Gibsonburg hung with Woodmore except for the second quarter, when the Golden Bears could only manage two points.

Tyler Rosenberger led Woodmore (2-2, 2-0) with 19 points. Joe Nowak backed him up with a 14-point effort.

Nathan Kirwen topped Gibsonburg (2-1, 1-1) with 13 points followed by Wyatt Kiser and Marcus Ahle with 12 apiece.

MILLBURY - Adam Blachuta led Elmwood with a game-high 19 points and added 13 rebounds.

Kyle Rhoad scored 11 and Chad Reynolds 10 for the Royals (3-1, 2-0).

Wes Blank and Tyler Steedman paced the Flyers (0-3, 0-2) with 18 and 10 points, respectively.

The Royals hit 23 of 55 (42 percent) from the field to Lake s 17 of 52 (32 percent).

The Flyers led 29-26 at halftime before the Roylas outscored them 38-20 in the second half.

KANSAS - Damien Montelongo scored 22 points, including seven in the third-quarter rally that put the Knights ahead for good.

Andy Astemborski added all eight of his points in the 20-point third period.

Andrew Hoffman and Bryan Chaney scored in double figures for the Raiders with 21 and 11 points, respectively.
