Miller City plays in semifinal today

COLUMBUS - Miller City looks to extend the best girls basketball season in school history today when it meets Mansfield St. Peter's in a Division IV state semifinal at 1 p.m. at Value City Arena.

The Wildcats (26-0) finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the state. Lynn Schroeder, a 6-0 senior, leads a balanced attack that includes three players averaging in double figures. The center has averaged 13.8 points a game. Brooke Hermiller, a 5-8 senior forward, averages 11.8 while Megan Niese, a 5-6 senior guard, has contributed 10.5 points a game.

St. Peter's, ranked fourth, is playing in its 10th state semifinal dating back to 1977. More significantly, this is the third consecutive year the Spartans have reached the semifinals. Dianna Reindl, a 6-1 senior, leads the Spartans with 13.2 points per game, followed by 6-0 senior Paula Bartlett (12.4) and 5-6 senior Aimee Kovinchick (10.4).

REESE, Mich. - Senior Rodney Batts made the winning 3-pointer in the fifth overtime to lift Harper Woods to a 78-75 victory over Ubly in a Class C Michigan High School Athletic Association regional playoff game.

Harper Woods (21-3) trailed by 16 with one minute left in the third quarter Wednesday before tying the game in regulation, the Detroit Free Press reported.
