Edon joins TAAC for football

5/14/2004

Edon will join the Toledo Area Athletic Conference as a football-only member starting with the 2005 season, league commissioner Joe Horvath said yesterday.

Horvath also said the league has received a letter of application from Hilltop asking to join the league as a football-only member in 2005. The application has been forwarded to the member schools, and Horvath said the league will reach a decision on the application in the next month.

Of the TAAC s seven members - Danbury, Cardinal Stritch, Emmanuel Baptist, Maumee Valley, Northwood, Ottawa Hills, and Toledo Christian - only five play football. Emmanuel Baptist and Maumee Valley do not field football teams.

The league also will lose a football-only member starting next season since Lorain Catholic has announced it will close its doors after the current academic year.

Edon is a member of the Buckeye Border Conference in all sports except football; Hilltop is the only other school in the BBC that sponsors the sport. The other schools in the BBC are Fayette, North Central, Pettisville, and Stryker.

Edon and Hilltop have been playing football in the South Central Athletic Association, a Michigan-based league.
