Bears take TAAC title

BOWLING GREEN - Matt Triggs of Northwood fired a 73 to easily earn medalist honors in the Toledo Area Athletic Conference golf championship yesterday at Forrest Creason, but Ottawa Hills put four golfers on the second team and won the team title.

Austin Mitchell (81), Jon Geisler (82), Benji Steinberg (82) and Dennis Sawan (82) led the Green Bears, who finished with a 327 score, two shots better than runner-up Toledo Christian. Northwood finished third (330).

Rounding out the first team were Brad Rupp of Cardinal Stritch (78), Danbury's Thomas Clifton (79), Toledo Christian's Robby Jackson (79) and Brandon Matanick (79) and Matt Havers of Emmanuel Baptist (80).

PAULDING - Nick Hofbauer earned medalist honors with a 72, teammate Todd Wisler fired a 75 and Bryan went on to win the Northwest Ohio Athletic League golf tournament yesterday at Auglaize Golf Club.

The Golden Bears finished with a 303 score, 15 shots ahead of runner-up Swanton (318). Wauseon, which won the previous two championships, finished third (330).

Qualifying for the NWOAL first team besides Hofbauer and Wisler were Wauseon's Tyler Uphaus (75), Swanton's Beau LaVigne (77), Matt Brubaker of Patrick Henry (78), Liberty Center's Ryan Bonner (78), and Bryan's Tyler Hollabaugh (78) and Alex Hofbauer (78).

WAUSEON - Terence Clingaman shot a 78 to lead Stryker to the Buckeye Border Conference championship at Ironwood Country Club. The Panthers finished at 334, besting runner-up Fayette by 32 strokes. Hilltop was third (376).

Clingaman shared medalist honors with Fayette's Nick Rodriguez.

Rounding out the first team were Stryker's Chad Carroll (84) and Chase Miller (85) and Hilltop's Bryant Draggoo (85).
