NLL: Panthers defeat Jackets

In a game marred by seven turnovers, Maumee took down arch-rival Perrysburg 28-6 last night to remain tied with Southview for the lead in the Northern Lakes League.

The Panthers forced three fumbles and an interception and held the Yellow Jackets to 181 total yards. It was the third time in the last four years that Maumee has beaten Perrysburg.

Maumee senior Brad Goatley led all rushers with 86 yards on 12 attempts. Goatley also scored on a 38-yard run. Junior Jake Causer scored on runs of 28 and 3 yards for the Panthers (7-1, 4-1). Junior Jimmy Begell recovered a fumble and returned it 61 yards for Maumee's final points.

Perrysburg junior Ronnie Tisdale rushed for 45 yards and scored its only points on a four-yard run. Yellow Jacket quarterback Ore Fatinikun rushed for a team-high 66 yards and threw for 68.

Maumee amassed 234 total yards (224 rushing and 10 passing), but lost three fumbles.

Perrysburg (2-6, 1-4) had 181 total yards (113 rushing, 68 passing).

Bowling Green 12, Springfield 0

The Bobcats' Nick Stretchbery returned a fumble 22 yards for a touchdown and Thomas Rodriguez scored on a 25-yard run in a sloppy road win.

Bowling Green quarterback Josh Swiecicki carried 18 times for 100 yards.

Springfield held a slight advantage in rushing yardage, 182-178, but Bowling Green (3-5, 3-2) threw for 62 yards and the Blue Devils had none. Each team fumbled once.

Rick Isby led Springfield (2-6, 1-4) with 17 carries for 88 yards.

Rossford 14,

Kevin Wagner and Andy Bowman ran for first-quarter touchdowns and the Bulldogs made them stand up for the NLL victory.

Rossford (5-3, 3-2) dominated on the ground with 256 yards while holding the Generals to 34, and it was a good thing for the Bulldogs as they failed to complete a pass in nine tries.

Wagner rambled for 170 yards on 23 carries.

Alex Keyer completed 7 of 22 passes for 123 yards for AW (3-5, 2-3). Each quarterback had two interceptions, with the Generals' Andy Whewell returning one 62 yards for a TD.

Travis Baltz brought Anthony Wayne to within five points with a second-quarter, 35-yard field goal, but neither team could score in the second half.
