CITY: Garza, Speweik pace St. Francis
10/23/2004St. Francis finished strong - a 28-point second half - to pin a 31-0 City League defeat on Bowsher last night on the Rebels' field.
Robert Garza ran for 185 yards on 26 carries and scored the Knights' first touchdown on a 41-yard run.
Dan Waldock added another for St. Francis (8-1, 6-0) on an 82-yard fumble return.
Then in the fourth quarter, Brandon Speweik scored on an 18-yard run before hitting Matt Bell for a 10-yard scoring pass.
Speweik gained 76 yards on 10 carries.
Sean Davis put St. Francis on the board in the first quarter with an 18-yard field goal.
Arthus Allen led Bowsher (6-3, 4-2) with 110 yards on 20 carries.
The Knights ran for 313 yards and added 28 through the air (2 of 5). Bowsher gained 141 yards rushing and 13 passing (1 of 9).
St. John's 40, Waite 0
Marcus Waugh rushed for 146 yards and three touchdowns and Rusty Marvin added 114 yards and two touchdowns as St. John's Jesuit (6-3, 5-1) rolled over Waite (0-9, 0-6).
Waugh scored the first two TDs and the fifth, sandwiched around a pair by Marvin. DeAndre Ware capped the Titans' scoring with a five-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Waite managed just three first downs and never really threatened to score. The Indians had 72 yards rushing and completed 2 of 13 passes for 30 yards.
Whitmer 27, Rogers 6
Junior backup quarterback Nick Specht threw for 110 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 93 yards to lead the Panthers to the road win.
Specht, who was filling in for injured starter J.J. Fought, hooked up with Kyle Andrews on two 25-yard TD passes. Andrews had three catches for 88 yards.
Kicker Pat Carmean added field goals of 30 and 27 yards, and Brad Rasar returned an interception 11 yards for a touchdown for Whitmer (6-3, 5-1).
Rogers quarterback Peris Edwards scored on a four-yard run and rushed for 80 yards.
The Panthers held Rogers (1-8, 1-5) to 155 total yards and picked off four passes. Whitmer had 299 total yards (189 rushing and 110 passing).
