Nelson helps Clay to River East title

Clay jumped to a 24-5 lead after one quarter at home and romped to a 93-64 boys basketball victory over Genoa in the River East Classic championship game.

John Nelson scored 10 of his 26 points in opening quarter while Brett McDougle, the tournament MVP, scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the 7-2 Eagles.

Wes Taylor added 14 points and Derek Spencer had 10.

Anthony Robertson led Genoa (3-6) with 20 points, Corey Hornyak added 13 and Adam Vonck had 10.

The all-tournament team was made up of Nelson, Hornyak, Robertson and Waite's Mark Wortham and Kahari Riley.

WAITE 51, ROSSFORD 50

Mark Wortham scored 22 points and Kahari Riley had 11, including the game-winner at the buzzer, as the Indians (1-8) won their first game of the season in the River East consolation.

Rossford (2-7), which made only 11 of 23 foul shots, got 15 from Sean Kanary and 13 from Jason Duly.

BOWSHER 57, MAUMEE 52

Craig Weaks scored 20 points, Adam Crisp had 13 and Anthony Pettaway 12 as the visiting Rebels won with a 23-17 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Kipp Dawson led Maumee with 17 and Andy Dybala added 13.

Neither team shot well from the foul line as Bowsher hit 10 of 20 and Maumee 10 of 18.

SOUTHVIEW 57

A healthy Dan Amato hit five treys to scored 15 points for Central Catholic, including four in the third quarter when the Irish outscored the visiting Cougars 25-14.

Jordan Bonczek added 14 and Steve Phillips 10 for Central.

Michael Campbell led Southview with 17 and Josh Murchison added 14.

FINDLAY 32, WOODWARD 28

FINDLAY - Brad Sutton sank two free throws with seven seconds remaining to give the Trojans (6-2) a two-possession lead in a game that was close throughout the final period, and close out the scoring.

Sutton led all scorers with 14 points and Zack Kraus added 12 for Findlay.

Dejuan Pettaway led Woodward (4-6) with 12 points.

WESTLAND 58,

PERRYSBURG 54

Josh Bostic scored 17 and Justin Patrick and Dan Cuccio added 14 apiece for ther visitors from Galloway, Ohio, who ran their record to 9-1.

Tyler Winkleman paced Perrysburg (8-2) with 13 points while Jason Rager and Jamie Casey scored 11 each. Rager also grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Jackets fought back from a 15-6 first-period deficit.

EAST CHICAGO CENTRAL 64,

BOWLING GREEN 61

INDIANAPOLIS - Bowling Green led most of the game, but a couple key turnovers in the final minutes cost the Bobcats the victory in the North Central Holiday Tournament.

BG (8-2) led by seven points going into the fourth quarter and by four points with less than two minutes remaining.

The Bobcats were led by Ryan Hoehner's 18 points. Loudan Hammersmith had 13, Jeremiah Kollar 12 and Brandon Radabaugh 11.

David Conner had 18 points to lead East Chicago Central (8-1).

GIBSONBURG - Marcus Ahle scored 16 and Nathan Kirwen added 12 for the 6-2 Golden Bears.

Mark Hoffert scored 10 for Old Fort.

ARCHBOLD - Dan Borcherdt hit four treys and scored 28 points to pace the 8-1 Streaks., who shot 57 percent from the field and 79 percent (22 of 28) from the foul line.

MONTPELIER - Anthony Jackson scored 20 and Jay Maag added 10 for 8-0 Ayersville.

Josh Daft led Montpelier with 10.

DELTA 60, STRYKER 38

DELTA - Kyle Bostater scored 15 and Clint Russell and Ryan Shackelford added 14 apiece as the host Panthers won in the Delta Holiday Tournament.

Nick Lloyd led Stryker with 12.

FAYETTE 70, SWANTON 64

DELTA - Heath Armstrong scored 22 for Stryker in the Delta Holiday Tournament. Justin Ridriguez added 18, Tyler Rupp 12 and Nat Johnson 11 as Eagles led 21-9 after one quarter.

Brad Betz scored 21, Jeff Vincent 12 and Kyle Kissling 11 for Swanton.

DANBURY 60, ST. JOE 57

LAKESIDE - Jake Fanning scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for 8-0 Danbury. Jaret Ensign added 14 points and Thomas Clifton 11.

David Rice poured in 32 for Fremont St. Joe and Andy Morrison added 10.
