Boys basketball roundup: Titans edge Akron St. V

AKRON - St. John's Jesuit toppled previously unbeaten Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary 61-60 in boys basketball as the Titans found Zach Hillesland underneath the basket with four seconds to play.

B.J. Raymond led St. John's in scoring with 28 points, including 12 in the second quarter when the Titans racked up a 24-8 advantage.

The Irish (9-1) fought back in the second half to regain the lead with about four minutes to play, with the lead seesawing the rest of the way.

Andrew Taylor added 16 points and Hillesland 12 for St. John's (10-1).

SCOTT 62, CINCINNATI HUGHES 56

Scott was challenged but remained unbeaten (10-0) with a victory over visiting Cincinnati Hughes yesterday, largely on the strength of a 23-14 advantage in the second period.

Kenny Byrd topped the scoring parade for the Bulldogs with 15 points, followed by James Walker's 12 points and 10 apiece from Stephen Woodley and Darrion Griffin.

Adrian Graves of Hughes led all scorers with 27 points.

CENTRAL 73, ST. THOMAS AQUINAS 60

LOUISVILLE - Jordan Bonczek poured in 28 points, Dan Amato added 17 and Sam Bastian had 11 for the Irish (5-6), who outscored the home team 46-22 in the middle two quarters.

CELINA 61, ROGERS 59

CELINA - Brent Jones poured in 25 points for the Rams, but they were outscored in overtime.

Aaron Braun tallied 24 points for Celina.

PERRYSBURG 52, NORTHVIEW 40

Scott Perkins scored eight of his 14 points in the third quarter, Jamie Casey had six and Jason Rager hit two of his five 3-pointers as the visiting Yellow Jackets outscored Northview 22-11 to build a 41-27 lead.

Rager finished with 17 points for Perrysburg (8-3, 7-1 NLL).

Derek Andrzejczak paced the Wildcats (1-9, 1-6) with 15 points.

BOWLING GREEN 64, ROSSFORD 35

BOWLING GREEN - Jeremiah Kollar took only six shots all night, but they were all from 3-point range and all went in as he led the Bobcats to the one-sided victory.

Ryan Hoehner added 15 points for Bowling Green (10-2, 7-0).

Sean Kanary paced the Bulldogs (2-9, 0-7) with 10 points.

Bowling Green made 11 of 17 free throws, while Rossford made 1 of 2.

MAUMEE 62, ANTHONY WAYNE 54

MAUMEE - The Panthers were led by Andy Dybala's 17 points in the victory.

Daryel Washington added 15 points for Maumee (5-4, 5-2 NLL) while Lamont Dawson scored 12.

Dustin Schmidt netted 12 points for the Generals (4-5, 4-3) and Kris Koval had 11.

SPRINGFIELD 66, SOUTHVIEW 61

Steve Decker hit 6 of 8 free throw tries in the fourth quarter to help the Blue Devils hold on at home.

Brad Zarembski totaled 16 points and Tyler Ammons and Fletcher Noble added 14 apiece for Springfield (5-4, 3-4).

Darrick Holloway tallied 12 points and Josh Murchison had 10 for the Cougars (4-7, 2-5), who outscored the Devils 39-32 in the second half.

MAUMEE VALLEY 78, NORTH BALTIMORE 73

Julian Banks scored four points in overtime and Adam Fish hit a big 3-pointer as the Hawks (3-7) slipped past the visiting Tigers.

Maumee Valley was down by two with 5.7 seconds left in regulation but Chris Sackman went coast-to-coast for a layup.

Craig Choka poured in 34 points for the Hawks and Banks and Sackman had 15 apiece.

Josh Eichar threw in 25 points for North Baltimore (0-10).

WAUSEON 60, DEFIANCE 53

DEFIANCE - Raymond Martinez (16 points), Chris Villalovos (11), Sean Robinson (11), Jared Neuenschwander (10) and Jake Reckner (10) all scored in double figures for the Indians, who outscored the Bulldogs 29-20 in the second half.

Graham Wagner paced Defiance with 24 and Jordan Schultz had 13.

PIONEER - Zack Kidston tallied 21 points for the Eagles (3-5), who outscored the visitors 14-4 in the third quarter.

Kyle Kissling scored 16 and Matt Spivey had 11 for the Bulldogs (1-8).

DELTA - Clint Russell poured in 22 of his game-high 26 points in the first half as the Panthers jumped to a 50-29 advantage.

Jason Turner added 16 points, Ryan Shackelford had 13, Kyle Bostater 12 and Aaron Mahnke 10 for Delta.

Matt Rollins threw in 19 points for Lake and Tyler Steedman had 12.
