Girls basketball roundup: St. Ursula pressures Magnificat

St. Ursula defeated visiting Rocky River Magnificat 65-59 yesterday in girls basketball, forcing 24 turnovers, outshooting its opponent 48 percent to 33 percent, and making 20 of 25 free throws.

Ali Florian led the Arrows (9-2) with 15 points. Jena Blosser had 14 and Emily Florian 10.

St. Ursula built a lead with a 21-10 second-quarter advantage, holding off a late Magnificat rally.

Jacklyn McGranahen topped the losers with 11 points.

NOTRE DAME 55, COLUMBUS WESTLAND 29

Mallory Myers was the top scorer for the Eagles (9-3) with 13 points. Heather Wiczynski followed with 12 points and Patrice Lalor added 11 points.

Both teams shot 40 field goals in the contest, the difference being Notre Dame draining 23 to Westland's 12.

PERRYSBURG 48, NAPOLEON 33

NAPOLEON - The efforts of the Parrish sisters lifted the Yellow Jackets over the Wildcats.

Nicole Parrish led the way with 13 points, including seven from the line, and Ashley Parrish put up 11 points.

Napoleon was led by Kristen Gilgenback's 10 points.

OTTAWA HILLS 63, EMMANUEL BAPTIST 40

Rachel Garber led the way for the Green Bears (5-5, 2-2 TAAC), collecting 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Shaleca McCorey scored 10 points for the Warriors (4-7, 1-5), while Justine Christiaanse and Kelly Harrington each added 10.

NEW RIEGEL 57, VANLUE 35

NEW RIEGEL - Leanne Lucius' 17 points and six steals helped carry New Riegel (11-1) to victory over the Wildcats. Lauren Schalk and Becca Mathias each put up 11 points.

Kendra Thomas was the only scorer in double figures for Vanlue (3-8) with 10 points.

FOSTORIA 52, WILLARD 42

WILLARD - Elaine DiCesare scored a game-high 22 points and Whitley Swartz added 14 to lead Fostoria over Willard.

Michala Domhoff paced Willard with 14 points.

OTTOVILLE 89, COLUMBUS GROVE 41

OTTOVILLE- Amy Honigford dropped in a team-high 17 points to lead Ottoville over Columbus Grove.

Ottoville jumped out to an 18-6 lead after the first quarter and posted a 41-21 lead at halftime.

FREMONT ST. JOSEPH 49, HOPEWELL-LOUDON 36

BASCOM - Becky Babione poured in 19 points for Fremont St. Joseph (9-1, 4-1) as the Streaks handed the Chieftains (7-3, 4-1) their first loss in Midland Athletic League play. Courtney Ritzler scored 16 for Hopewell-Loudon.

ARCHBOLD 60, WAYNE TRACE 36

HAVILAND - Archbold (8-4) hammered Wayne Trace 36-18 on the boards as Sarah Grime scored 16 points and Megan Hesterman totaled 11 points and 10 rebounds.
