City: Poellnitz paces Libbey victory

Chris Poellnitz came up big with 23 points as Libbey cruised to a 76-61 victory at Clay in City League action last night.

William Buford followed with 15 points for the Cowboys (7-5, 5-3). Nate Miles and Terry Sandridge each put up 13.

Brett McDougle led the way for the Eagles (9-4, 4-4) with 20 points. Wes Taylor and Nick Zenk each had 14 points.

Libbey's 76 percent shooting from the field to Clay's 48 percent proved to be the difference in the game.

St. Francis 75,

Rogers 43

Darryl Roberts, the City League's leading scorer, tallied 27 last night for St. Francis de Sales.

Nick Meinert added 12 points for the visiting Knights (10-3, 7-1). Brent Jones led Rogers (3-9, 2-6) with 11.

Eleven Knights broke into the scoring column.

Central 59, Bowsher 52

Dan Amato scored 31 points to pace the visiting Irish, and had 21 by halftime including five of his six 3-pointers.

Jordan Bonczak added 12 points for Central Catholic (7-6, 2-6).

Ken Hairston paced the Rebels (8-5, 4-4) with 15 points and Anthony Pettaway added 14.

Bowsher made 20 of 35 foul shots to 11 of 19 for Central.

Whitmer 57,

Woodward 50

Kevin Koger poured in 26 points as Whitmer (6-6, 2-5) slipped past Woodward (4-11, 2-6) in overtime. J.J. Fought and Nick Specht contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Theran Jones was the high scorer for the Polar Bears with 15 points. DeJuane Pettaway followed with 12.

Woodward's Robert Barner sank a free throw with three seconds left to send the game into the extra period, where the Panthers outscored the Polar Bears 10-3.

Start 59, Waite 40

Jermaine Jones scored 19 points and Matt Foley added 15 as the Spartans jumped on top early and thumped the Indians. Terrell West added 10 points for Start (8-4, 5-3), which led 27-11 at halftime.

Waite (1-11, 0-8), led by Khari Riley with 15 points and Brent Meredith with 11, made a run in the second half, but the Start lead was too much to overcome.
