City: St. Francis able to score with offense and defense
10/1/2005St. Francis dominated Bowsher on all fronts last night, scoring on offense and defense to roll to a 64-6 victory and stay undefeated in the City League.
The Knights (3-3, 3-0) rattled off 51 unanswered points and outgained the Rebels (1-5, 0-3) on the ground 299 yards to 71. Cody Enos led the St. Francis ground attack with 21 carries for 140 yards and the game's first two touchdown runs of 28 and 1 yards.
The St. Francis defense did its share of the work by intercepting Bowsher quarterback Casey Keil five times, with Chris Wyse returning one for a 45-yard touchdown. The Knights defense also recovered two fumbles in the end zone for scores.
Alex Griffin scored the lone touchdown for the Rebels when he caught Keil's pass for a 14-yard score.
Rogers 19, Start 9
Rogers quarterback Ronney Hester threw for one touchdown and ran for scores of 1 and 5 yards. The pass was a 19-yarder to Isaiah Ballard.
Start (0-6, 0-3) scored on Quinton Stewart's five-yard run and on Chris Mays' tackle in the end zone for a safety.
Rogers (4-2, 21) only gained 26 yards rushing on 33 attempts, but Hester completed 15 of 23 passes for 227 yards. Jermaine Dykes caught five passes for 92 yards and Myshan Pettis-Beasley five for 64 yards.
Start was limited to 46 yards on 29 carries, while quarterback Brad Leestma connected on 16 of 31 passes for 178 yards.
The sloppy game was marred by 18 penalties and eight turnovers, although only one led to an opposition score.
Whitmer 34, Woodward 14
Chris Laser gained 118 yards on nine carries and scored on runs of 13 and 20 yards to pace Whitmer (1-5, 1-2).
The Panthers ran for 219 yards and added 114 through the air.
Woodward (2-4, 2-1) traveled primarily by air by hitting 10 of 20 passes for 307 yards, including two TD tosses by Sam Wallace - 80 yards to Remont Barnett and 46 to J.R. Smith.
Whitmer's other scores came on a five-yard run by DeWayne Frazier, a 12-yard run by Donnie Doetti and a 54-yard pass from Nick Specht to Kevin Koger.
