TAAC: Ottawa Hills claims crown behind QB Miller, defense

Sam Miller completed 10 of 12 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns, leading Ottawa Hills to the outright Toledo Area Athletic Conference championship with a 56-23 victory over Toledo Christian.

Total net offense was deceivingly even, with the Green Bears netting 203 yards passing and 159 rushing for 362 total, while the Eagles had 176 in the air and 141 on the ground for a total of 317.

But the Green Bears defense came up with four interceptions three by Aaron Crooks, who returned one 37 yards for a TD and a fumble recovery to take control.

Crooks caught six passes for 110 yards and two more TDs. Matt Netter carried the ball 20 times for 102 yards and a TD.

Grant Sims completed 12 of 20 passes for 165 yards for Toledo Christian, with Mark Rossol receiving eight passes for 114 yards (and a 70-yard TD on a fumble return). Chris Mc-Conaughy rushed 12 times for 123 yards for the Eagles (3-7, 1-5). Ottawa Hills completed TAAC play undefeated (6-0) and is 8-2 for the season.

Northwood 41, Cardinal Stritch 14

Northwood s P.J. McKibben rushed for 205 yards on 22 carries, tallying four touchdowns on runs of 3, 23, 4 and 47 yards.

The Rangers (5-5, 5-1) added a two-yard score from Don Klenke and a 45-yard interception return for a TD by Preston Wielinski.

Quarterback Hank Taylor had a hand in both touchdowns for Stritch (6-4, 4-2). He threw a 62-yard TD pass to Eric McCloskey and scored on a one-yard run.
