Boys basketball roundup: Start's West is tourney MVP

FARRELL, Pa. - Terrell West nailed five of six free throws in the fourth quarter and was named Farrell Tip-Off Classic MVP as Start held off a furious fourth-quarter rally by Farrell to take a 58-55 victory last night.

West finished with 18 points. Robert Lonas, who all made the all-tourney team, added 12 points, and Jeff Williams had 11 for the Spartans, who led 30-19 at the half.

Bobby Wright scored 20 for Farrell, which outscored the visitors 24-13 in the final period.

SCOTT 80, EASTMOOR 55

COLUMBUS - A 24-8 third-quarter edge propelled Scott past Eastmoor Academy in the opener for both teams.

Grant Maxey scored 21 points, Kyle Lightner 19, and Stephen Woodley 16 for the Bulldogs.

Jaquez Terry led Eastmoor with 15.

FINDLAY 56, ROGERS 41

Findlay scored the first 10 points and never trailed at Rogers.

Andrew Leddy paced the Trojans with 18 points, while Luke Kraus and Mac Cloud dropped in 13 and 10, respectively. London Cunningham recorded 13 points for Rogers and Deron Williams scored 11.

Findlay outscored the Rams 25-20 in the first half and 31-21 in the second.

FREMONT ROSS 66, WAITE 55

FREMONT - Cory Clayton scored 20 points and Adam Gries had 12 for the Little Giants, who led 37-22 at the half.

Mark Wortham tallied 18 points and Troy Murphy had 17 for the Indians (1-1).

Ross (1-1) was 21-of-32 at the free throw line, while Waite made 18 of 25.

ZANESVILLE 70, WOODWARD 44

ZANESVILLE, Ohio - Logan Aronhalt and Kodey Haddox scored 15 points apiece to lead four players in double figures for Zanesville, which outscored the visitors 37-17 in the second half.

Demarcus Cummings paced the Polar Bears with 14 points. Toney Gillard had nine.

Zanesville outscored Woodward 24-2 at the free throw line.

BOWLING GREEN 66, SOUTHVIEW 47

Ryan Hoehner exploded for a game-high 24 points and Brandon Radabaugh added 15 to lead Bowling Green (2-0) over Southview (1-1).

Bowling Green jumped out to a 24-12 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.

Josh Craig scored 18 points for Southview.

PERRYSBURG 93, ROSSFORD 45

Andrew Wood sank nine 3-pointers en route to a game-high 34 points for the Yellow Jackets.

Scott Perkins tossed in 25 and Ian Milne scored 12 for Perrysburg, which led 48-21 at the half and posted 16 treys to the visitors' two.

Jason Duly tallied 17 points for the Bulldogs.

SPRINGFIELD 80, ANTHONY WAYNE 72

Fletcher Noble and Steve Decker scored 18 points apiece and Brad Zarembski had 13 for the Blue Devils, who rallied to the win by outscoring the visitors 47-29 in the second half.

Kris Koval paced the Generals with 20 points while Josh Dittman (15), Andrew Riley (14) and Brent Papenfuss (12) also scored in double figures.

MAUMEE 74, NORTHVIEW 63

Kipp and Lamonte Dawson combined for 48 points to lead the Panthers (1-1, 1-0). Kipp hit five of Maumee's eight 3-pointers en route to a game-high 25.

Matt Wade tallied 20 and Sam Myers had 14 for the Wildcats (0-1, 0-1), who outscored Maumee 16-6 at the free throw line.

HOLGATE 47, TOLEDO CHRISTIAN 35

HOLGATE - Logan Brubaker contributed 12 points and seven rebounds for the Tigers, who outscored the visitors 14-7 in the final quarter.

Joe Baker scored the first five points of the fourth quarter en route to his 12 for Holgate (2-0).

Tyler Boris paced the Eagles (0-1) with 18 points.

Holgate outscored Toledo Christian 12-3 at the free throw line.

EMMANUEL BAPTIST 56, MONCLOVA CHRISTIAN 41

Seth Flamm scored 22 points and Kris Benefiel had 18 for the visiting Warriors, who jumped to a 35-10 lead at the half.

Ryan Osborn tallied 17 and David Haas chipped in 14 for Monclova Christian.

Emmanuel Baptist had a 34-24 rebounding advantage.

WAUSEON 66, ARCHBOLD 58

WAUSEON - Archbold hit six 3-pointers in a fourth-quarter rally, but Wauseon sunk 11 of 13 free throws in the final 12 minutes to hold on.

Chris Villalovos threw in 23 points, while Ray Martinez added 17 and Elliott Mealer had 14 for the Indians, who led 27-26 at the half before outscoring the visitors 18-11 in the third quarter.

Josh Wyse scored 18 points for the Blue Streaks. Josh Johnson and Gene Goering added 15 and 12, respectively.

Wauseon outscored Archbold 12-3 at the line.

TINORA 60, LIBERTY CENTER 47

DEFIANCE - Kyle Weber tallied 18 points and Chad Meyer and Layne Schroeder added 13 and 11, respectively, for the Rams, who outscored the visitors 38-29 in the second half.

Kasey Bodenbender tossed in 23 points and Brian Babcock added 11 for the Tigers.

Weber also pulled down 23 rebounds.

VAN WERT 60, BRYAN 44

BRYAN - Chris Morrow tossed in 22 points and Kyle Smelser added 13 for Van Wert, which led 33-23 at the half.

Tyler Smith paced the Golden Bears with 12.

DELTA 52, PETTISVILLE 50

DELTA - Aaron Mahnke scored 13 points and Kyle Bostater added 12 to lead the Panthers over Pettisville.

Delta allowed the Blackbirds to score just four points in the third quarter.

Tony Avila dropped in 15 points for Pettisville, while Alex Nofziger and Travis Gruerhagen scored 10 apiece.

EVERGREEN 49, NORTH CENTRAL 36

PIONEER - The Vikings held North Central to just four points in the second quarter to build a 28-17 lead at halftime in the win.

Matt Pinkelman led Evergreen with 18 points. Craig Kidston was the lone Eagle in double figures with 12.

OTSEGO 69, SWANTON 57

TONTOGANY - The 21-6 lead that the Knights built through the first quarter proved to be insurmountable.

Casey Donald led Otsego with 24 points and nine rebounds. Tyler Getz put up 12 for the Knights.

Brad Betts had a game-high 25 points for the Bulldogs. Beau Lavigne added 11.

LIBERTY-BENTON 53, WOODMORE 35

FINDLAY - Nathan Hyde scored 18 and Ty Vaupel 13 as Liberty-Benton (1-0) rolled over Woodmore (0-2).

Austin Dean led the Wildcats with 13 and Brennan Lowry chipped in with 10.

LAKE 58, OAK HARBOR 55

MILLBURY - Matt Rollins hit two free throws with 17 seconds left to ice the victory for the Flyers.

Rollins finished with 13 points while Mike Curry added 12 and Cody McPherson 11 for Lake (1-0).

Nic Kleman tallied 13, Jimmy Vassill and Tom Ladderach had 12 apiece and Kevin Missig had 10 for the Rockets (0-2).

HICKSVILLE 85, MONTPELIER 71

HICKSVILLE - Brandon Cover tallied 22 points to lead four players in double figures for the Aces, who outscored the visitors 27-10 at the free throw line and outrebounded them 32-21.

Britt Barry scored 19 points, Jeremy Hartman 14, Kurt Moore 13 and Josh Daft 12 for the Locomotives.

KANSAS - Jon Cuff's team-high 14 points included three of Old Fort's five 3-pointers.

Trever Hohman tossed in 21 points for the Raiders, who had two 3-pointers.

DEFIANCE - Dathan Lyles registered a four-point play with 4:35 left to put Lima Senior on top to stay. He had 13 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter.

Kane Wagner tallied 17 points and Nate Ripke had 13 for the Bulldogs, who outscored the visitors 17-4 in the third quarter to take the lead but were then outscored themselves 20-9 in the fourth.

EDGERTON - Jacob Bernath scored 16 points and Terrence Clingaman had 12 for the Panthers, who led 28-17 at the half.

Jim Lucas scored 12 for the Bulldogs.

NORTH BALTIMORE - Josh Eichar poured in 28 points for the Tigers, who jumped to a 45-22 lead at the half.
