Montion sparks rare Swanton win

SWANTON - Mike Montion contributed 16 points and nine rebounds last night as Swanton won its first Northwest Ohio Athletic League boys basketball game in four seasons, 59-48 over Montpelier.

Beau LaVigne added 13 points, Brad Betz had 11 and Eric Camp 10 for the Bulldogs (1-1, 1-0), who took a 27-18 lead into halftime.

Eric Hartman tallied 17 points and Josh Daft had 12 for the Locomotives (1-1, 0-1).

Swanton outrebounded the visitors 32-26.

Archbold 67,

Liberty Center 54

ARCHBOLD - The Streaks placed four in double figures and led 19-8 after one quarter.

Gene Goering led Archbold (1-1, 1-0) with 18 points. Josh Wyse added 14, David Borcherdt 13 and Josh Johnson 10.

Kasey Bodenbender paced Liberty Center (0-2, 0-1) with 16 points and Brian Babcock had 14.

Archbold made 22 of 31 free throw attempts to Liberty Center's 10 of 13.

The Streaks outrebounded the Tigers 21-15.

Wauseon 55,

Evergreen 52

WAUSEON - Wauseon had just five players score, but four were in double figures. Elliott Mealer led the way with 21, Chris Villalovos and Jake Unger had 11 apiece and Ray Martinez added 10.

Andrew Pinkelman paced Evergreen (1-2, 0-1) with 17 points and Chris Pfund added 11.

The Indians (2-0, 1-0) hit 8 of 11 foul shots to Evergreen's 3 of 8, but the Vikings hit seven treys to five for Wauseon.

Evergreen won the battle of the boards 18-16 and each team committed 13 turnovers.

Bryan 52, Tinora 45

BRYAN - Bryan pulled out a victory in overtime with Tyler Hollabaugh scoring 15 points and Tyler Smith 12.

Chad Meyer paced Tinora with 13, Kyle Weber had 12 and Layne Schroeder 10.

The stats were as even as the score would indicate - each team made 12 free throws and each grabbed 25 rebounds
