St. John's lacrosse coach James Reed didn't worry when the Titans gave up three early goals to the Sylvania Maple Leafs yesterday in a Toledo Area Lacrosse Association meeting at St. John's.

Climbing out of holes has been a way of existence throughout the season for the Titans.

"We've had one good start all year," said Reed, whose Titans put together a furious comeback to post a 12-5 victory. "Today we came out slow again, but we cut it off at three goals."

Sean Breen scored a game-high four goals and added an assist to lead the rally.

Team captain Brian Masterson also played a significant role, with a game-high five assists and two shots that got by Sylvania goalkeeper Will Dailey. Ron Erdelyi and Sam Strouse also chipped in with two goals apiece while Matt Kennedy and Mitch Cereghini scored a goal each for St. John's.

"We weren't really focused at the start but we pulled it together in the second quarter," Masterson said. "And then we came out in the second half and put it away."

The Titans (7-3) outscored the Maple Leafs 8-2 in the second quarter to take an 8-4 lead into the second half.

"That is St. John's lacrosse right there," Masterson said. "Once we get into the swing of things it doesn't stop."

The Maple Leafs goalie credited the Titans for not calling it quits early.

"Lacrosse is just like basketball when it comes to momentum," said Dailey, who made nine saves. "They took over the momentum."

Scott Stansley scored the first two goals for Sylvania (4-4) and Ryan Stansley added three.

St. John's goalie Mike Henson made five saves.

"They were a better team than us today," Sylvania coach Jeffery Ward said of the Titans. "We broke down and they didn't."
