District tennis: 2 St. John's doubles teams head to state

PORT CLINTON - St. John's No. 1 doubles team will advance to the Division I state tennis tournament.

So will the Titans' No. 2 doubles team.

Perhaps they should be advancing as No. 1-A and 1-B.

The Titans' second-seeded pair of Rollin Urrutia and Brian Meyer defeated the Titans' top-seeded tandem of Dustin DeLelles and Tyler Sbrocchi 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 in yesterday's district final.

In Division I, the top two singles players and doubles teams advance to Columbus.

In yesterday's doubles semifinals, DeLellas and Sbrocchi zipped past Lexington's Justin Kerns and Dave Ellsworth 6-1, 6-0 while Urrutia and Meyer were defeating Northview's Jake Butcher and Jason Gaynor 6-3, 6-2.

In singles, Mansfield's Diego Miranda defeated Lexington's Alex McCann 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 for the title.

In the singles semifinals, Miranda knocked off Findlay's Kyle Collette 6-2, 6-3 and McCann beat St. John's Derek Than 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

PORT CLINTON - Napoleon's Ben Bischoff won the Division II district singles title with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Maumee Valley's Abi Pai in the final.

Archbold's Andy Redd topped Port Clinton's Jason Drusbacky 6-3, 6-2 for third place. The top three singles players advance to the state tournament.

In the semifinals, Bischoff beat Drusbacky 6-2, 6-0, while Pai stopped Redd 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles, Elida's Landon Neuman and Evan Neuman won the final with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Lima Shawnee's Josh Piron and Jeremy Kearns.

Maumee Valley's Anil Dewan and Jesse Rubin took third place to advance to the state tournament with a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (5) victory over Port Clinton's Jason Cellier and Brendan Shirkey.
