TONTOGANY - Visiting Eastwood hit 24-of-36 free throws to Otsego's 13-of-19 to take a 62-53 Suburban Lakes League boys basketball victory last night.

Chad Fairbanks led the Eagles with 15 points, Clay Rolf added 14 and Nick Schling 12.

Steve Weisenborn led the Knights with 18 points and Seth Childers added 12.

GENOA - Ryan Gargas and Chris Bassitt scored 11 points apiece for Genoa (12-4, 8-3 SLL). Nike Curry scored 12 and Derrick Brown 10 for Lake (5-11, 4-7). The Comets hit six 3-pointers to the Flyers' one.

MASSILLON, Ohio - No charges will be filed against a high school basketball player who injured an opponent while trying for a rebound in a game last weekend, authorities said yesterday.

Massillon City Prosecutor John Simpson said there was insufficient evidence for a case against Cory Berry of Canton Central Catholic, whose hand hit the face of Massillon Perry junior Kenny Frease, breaking two bones in his right eye socket Saturday.

Simpson reviewed several films of the play, including one that was slowed down and enhanced.

"It clearly appears both players are looking at the ball and making a play for the ball," Simpson said.

Players and witnesses who were interviewed - including Berry - gave no indication that the hard play was premeditated, Simpson said.

Massillon Perry coach Rob Toth watched enhanced video of the play and accused Berry of hitting Frease with a fist.
