Whiteford wins state title

ADA, Mich. - Whiteford captured the Division 4 Lower Peninsula state track and field championship Saturday at Forest Hills High School.

The Bobcats scored 55 points. Royal Oak Shrine and Springport tied for second at 30.

Senior George Flanner won the shot put (58-5 1/4) and the discus (160-6), setting a state record in the shot put.

Flanner also ran on the 400-meter relay team which placed second. The team also included Nate Seevers, Josh Dupree and Dan Ovall. Flanner was seventh in the 110 high hurdles.

Ovall was third in the discus and ran on the third-place 800 relay team. Dupree was second in the 200 and on the 800 relay. Seevers was sixth in the long jump, seventh in the 200 and part of the 800 relay.

The Bobcats, coached by Jamie Larocca, also won the Tri-County Conference and

regional this season.
