SLL: Genoa, Elmwood win, share SLL title

The Suburban Lakes League girls race wound up in a tie as Genoa and Elmwood both picked up road victories last night to finish 13-1 in the league. The Comets beat Woodmore and the Royals topped Otsego.

Elmwood 49, Otsego 33

TONTOGANY - Elmwood pulled away with a 15-5 fourth-quarter margin after leading by just six after three quarters.

Brooke Morgart led Elmwood (18-2) with 15.

Liz Wagner added 11 and Chelsea Barhisel nine.

Kara Dickey and Hannah Perez each scored seven for Otsego (10-10, 6-8).

Genoa 65,

Woodmore 41

ELMORE - Genoa (16-3) captured a share of the SLL title for the second straight season.

The Comets cruised as Eli Simone scored 20 points, Brittany Darling 17 and Ashley Robertson 13.

Haley Speaker led the Wildcats (6-14) with 13 points.

Lake 55,

Gibsonburg 52

MILLBURY - Kaysie Brittenham scored 19 points to help lead the comeback win for Lake.

The Golden Bears led 28-22 at the half, but Lake battled back to tie the game at 39 at the end of three quarters and outscored Gibsonburg 16-13 in the final period.

Lauren Lind chipped in with 11 points for the Flyers (13-6, 9-5).

Only four players scored for Gibsonburg (10-10, 7-7), led by Emily Clark's 24 points. Kristi Krotzer tallied 14 points, and Lindsay Hill had 11.

Eastwood 62,

Lakota 44

PEMBERVILLE - Emily Bockbrader poured in 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the charge for Eastwood (3-17, 3-11).

The Eagles put the game away in the fourth quarter by outscoring Lakota 21-8.

Cami Wasserman led the Raiders (1-19, 0-14) with 11 points. Katy Garber added 10 points.
