Bedford, Dundee advance to semis

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. - Both the Bedford and Dundee wrestling teams advanced to the semifinals of the Michigan team state wrestling tournament with quarterfinal wins yesterday at Kellogg Arena.

Bedford, ranked fifth in Division 1, earned a 36-32 victory over third-ranked Rockford. The Mules bounced back from early deficits of 8-0 and 14-9 thanks to three straight pins by Patrick Nusbaum (152 pounds), Alex Ortman (160) and Ian Kohlhofer (171).

P.J. Stevens sealed the victory with a pin at 103.

Today the Mules (30-2) face Lake Orion (34-4) in the semifinals at 11:45 a.m.

Dundee advanced to the Division 3 semifinals with a 28-23 victory over Corunna. The Vikings led by just two points before Pete Rendina (130) claimed a 6-0 victory over Luke Perrin in the final bout.

Dundee (24-3), ranked second, will take on third-ranked Saginaw Swan Valley (34-1) in the semifinals at

9:30 a.m. today.

The finals are at 4 p.m.
