Sidelines: Northern Lakes League, City League tie in first Challenge
5/1/2008The inaugural Northern Lakes League/City League Softball Challenge last Saturday at Sylvania Pacesetter Park settled nothing in terms of superiority.
In fact, because the NLL and CL each won five contests in the 10-game format, the Challenge Trophy, which was supposed to go to the league with the most victories, will have to be shared, according to assistant City League commissioner Bill Nopper. The school which eventually wins this year s NLL softball title will possess the trophy for half the year and then pass it on to the eventual CL champion for the rest of the year.
Nopper said the format will likely be changed in future years to an odd number of games to guarantee one league a victory. One change already in store is to include all eight NLL schools in at least one game next year.
CL wins were: Whitmer 9, Rossford 8; Clay 2, Perrysburg 0; St. Ursula 5, Anthony Wayne 4; Clay 14, Anthony Wayne 4; Notre Dame 7, Rossford 3.
NLL wins were: Springfield 7, Notre Dame 2; Southview 5, Central Catholic 2; Perrysburg 5, Whitmer 4; Springfield 4, Central 1; Southview 8, Start 0.
300 for Radabaugh
Clay coach Brenda Radabaugh claimed her 300th career coaching victory on April 26 when the Eagles defeated Anthony Wayne 14-4.
Radabaugh posted a 153-58 record in nine seasons at Central Catholic before coming to Clay in 2001. She has a 147-60 record in her eight seasons with the Eagles, giving her a career record of 300-118.
