Northview girls, AW boys win titles

Kevin Hoyle owned the sixth-best average among the Anthony Wayne golfers all season heading into the Northern Lakes League tournament yesterday at Riverby Hills Golf Course.

But Hoyle, a junior, shot a team-leading round of 71 to spark the Generals to an NLL tournament victory with a team score of 299.

Aaron Pontsler and John Gaspar shot rounds of 74 and 76 to finish tied for third and fourth, respectively, to help AW pull off the win under Generals first-year coach Pat Phillips. The tournament win also secured the league championship for AW.

Meanwhile, Northview s Brooke Darah shot a round of 80 to top the girls competition and lead the Wildcats to the tournament title and league championship for the second year in a row. Northview finished with a score of 369 while Perrysburg finished second with 371.

Bowling Green finished second in the boys tournament with a score of 313, followed by Southview 314, Perrysburg 326, Northview 327, Maumee 329, Springfield 346, Rossford 351.

BG s Kyle Laberdee edged Hoyle for top honors by shooting a round of 70. Southview s Tim Hausfeld completed the top five boys spots with a round of 74, which tied him for third with Pontsler.

Maumee placed third in the girls tournament with a score of 391, followed by Springfield 400, Rossford 402, Southview 405, AW 431.
