Napoleon's Harper, Zuch lead Division II title sweep

BOWLING GREEN - Napoleon swept the boys and girls Division II district swimming and diving titles Saturday night at Bowling Green State University's Cooper Pool.

The Wildcat boys got past Sandusky Perkins 325 to 315 to claim the title. The Napoleon girls edged Lima Shawnee 271-258 to take the championship.

On the boys' side, the top six divers and top four individuals and relay teams in each swimming event qualified for the state tournament. The swimmers with the next top 11 times at all the statewide district meets also advance to Canton.

Napoleon senior Ryan Harper was a double-event winner. Harper placed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.33 and won the 500 free (4:44).

The Wildcats' Spencer Witt, a junior, grabbed the title in the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.44.

Napoleon also took second in the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay.

Wildcat junior Marc Anderson advanced to state with a third-place finish in the 200 backstroke (54.82).

In the 50 free, Otsego junior Michael Cavanaugh sprinted to a championship in 21.62 seconds. Cavanaugh also took first in the 200 free (47.04).

On the girls' side, Napoleon junior Samantha Zuch broke the district record in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.65. That broke the mark she set last year. Zuch also set a new record in the 500 free (4:56.72).

Wildcat freshman Erika Vocke placed second in the 50 free in 25 seconds flat. Napoleon senior Jamie Fisher finished runner-up in the 100 butterfly (1:01.81).

Vocke and Zuch also helped the Wildcats take second in the 200 free relay along with Chandler Ashbaugh and Lauren Meyers.

Eastwood senior Amy Myers captured first place in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 1:00.49.

In the 1-meter diving competition, Wauseon freshman Kendall Weber took the title with 406.85 points.

Port Clinton freshman MacKenzie Stewart took first in the 200 IM and broke the DII district record with a time of 2:09.54. Stewart also finished first in the 100 breaststroke with a record-breaking time of 1:05.12.

The girls that qualified for state are the top six divers and top three individuals and relay teams in each event.
