Li earns medalist honors in DII district golf tourney

Yang "Sunny" Li, a senior from Maumee Valley, took medalist honors with a 73 in the Division II girls district golf tournament at Sycamore Springs in Arlington, and will advance to state competition next Friday and Saturday at the Ohio State University's Gray Course.

Also qualifying individually were senior Alyssa Shimel and junior Mikayla Young of Eastwood. Shimel was second to Li with a 74, and Young advanced with an 83. Lima Shawnee, Edison and Huron were the top three team finishers advancing to state.

In Division I girls sectional play at Detwiler, St. Ursula (344), Findlay (347) and Notre Dame (357) placed second through fourth, respectively, and will each advance to district competition Thursday at Heather Downs Golf Club. Ashland captured the team title.

Qualifying as individuals for Thursday's district tournament were Brooke Darah of Northview (77), Becki Hayes of Maumee (82) and Kelsy Holsten of Whitmer (88). Stephanie St.-Jean of Findlay and Rachel Thompson of Ashland shared medal honors at 75.

In Michigan Division 1-2 girls regional tournament play at Giant Oak Golf Club yesterday, Bedford shot 351 to place second to champion Saline and advance to state competition next week. Scoring for the Kicking Mules were Becca Porter (83), Sarah Glick (86), Alexis Stock (90) and Ametta Roe (92).
