Titans finish fifth in D-I state golf

COLUMBUS - St. John's Jesuit finished fifth in the Division I boys state golf tournament yesterday at Ohio State's Scarlet Course.

The Titans posted a team score of 326, 17 shots behind champ Columbus St. Charles, while Anthony Wayne placed 11th with a 334.

Both the Division I boys and girls tournaments were shortened to one round after rain canceled Friday's scheduled 18 holes.

Juniors Michael Balcar and Zak Hart led St. John's, tying two other golfers for 14th place with 78.

Senior Josh Bialecki led Anthony Wayne with an 82 that left him tied for 31st overall. Seniors John Gaspar and Brian Turnwald each fired an 83 to tie for 41st.

St. Ursula placed 11th in the Division I girls tournament hosted by OSU's Gray Course.

The Arrows finished with a 363 team total, 47 strokes behind first-place Mason.

Senior Megan McKernan led St. Ursula with an 87 that placed her 39th overall, while fellow senior Eileen Perry shot a 91 to finish tied for 45th and sophomore Eva Antypas added a 92.

Individually, Notre Dame's Molly Sterling tied Antypas and five others for 48th place with a 92.
