Libbey upsets St. John's 60-58

Lonacy Utley made a layup with about a minute left to break a tie game, and Libbey held on to defeat St. John's 60-58 last night in City League boys basketball.

Maurice Taylor led Libbey (10-6, 7-4) with 20 points, and Utley added 16.

The Cowboys led 48-44 entering the fourth quarter.

It was the first league loss for St. John's (15-3, 10-1), which was just 10 of 19 from the free-throw line. T.J. Gillespie led the Titans with 20 points, and Jay Springs added 13.

Anthony Henderson scored 31 points to lead the Spartans (10-8, 6-5) to the win.

Ke-Sean Harris had 28 for the Indians (9-9, 5-6). Dishon Harris added 10.

The Spartans led 33-23 at half and increased it to 50-37 entering the final quarter.

Bowsher 65, Scott 56

Robert Davis poured in 31 points and Mookie Mustafa chipped in with 18 as the Rebels overcame a 31-28 halftime deficit to edge the Spartans.

Bowsher (8-8, 5-6) outscored Scott 23-8 in the third quarter to hold off a late Spartan rally.

Jordan Holmes led the Spartans (3-15, 2-9) with 13 points, and Dashawn Lee added 12.

Whitmer (14-4, 8-3) jumped out to a 23-8 lead in the first quarter and rolled.

Nigel Hayes had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Panthers (14-4, 8-3). Mitchell Kosier had 14 points, and Dareon Jones added 12.

Ray Hooker led the Polar Bears (2-15, 0-11) with 24 points, and Brandon Wyatt had 12.
