BRYAN - Archbold used an 18-5 finish to claim a 58-45 victory over Bryan last night, giving the Blue Streaks the Northwest Ohio Athletic League boys basketball title.

The Golden Bears' Alex Nossaman made a 3-pointer with six minutes left to play that tied the game at 40, but Bryan did not make another basket after that. Archbold's Sam Miller made a 3-pointer to break the tie, and a steal that led to a Telly Fricke basket gave the Blue Streaks a 45-40 lead with 5:18 to play.

The Golden Bears didn't score a basket the rest of the way, making just five free throws, while Fricke made 7 of 8 free throws to sew up the victory.

Archbold connected on 5 of 8 shots from the floor in the fourth quarter and had only one turnover while making 7 of 9 free throws. Bryan made just 1 of 9 field goals in the final period.

Fricke finished with 19 points. Sophomore Luke Kammeyer added seven points and 10 rebounds.

"We guarded well, we rebounded well, and when they fouled us we converted the free throws," Archbold coach Doug Krauss said. "That's what you have to do to win championships."

Archbold (16-4, 7-1 NWOAL) won its 21st overall league title and 10th under coach Krauss.

Bryan (11-9, 5-3) got 15 points from Alex Nossaman and 13 from Matt Wisler.

WAUSEON - Tyler Hinkle was the lone offensive bright spot in the game for either team, pacing the Indians with 15 points, 13 of those coming in the first half.

Wauseon advances to 13-7, while Holgate drops to 5-15.

HAMLER - The visiting Black Knights jumped out to an 18-4 lead after one quarter and held on.

Clay Sudlow finished with 15 points and Riley Damon had 13, while Andrew Bell and Jude Palmer each scored 10 for Van Buren (9-11).
