Southview ace Kirk Stambaugh pitched a complete game, four-hit shutout to lead the Cougars to an early Northern Lakes League road win over Anthony Wayne yesterday.

Stambaugh did not allow an extra base hit and struck out five, including the final two batters to seal a 5-0 victory. Southview (11-0 overall, 4-0 NLL), ranked No. 7 in the Division I state poll, scored four runs in the first and never looked back.

“It's a big win playing on the road,” Stambaugh said. “We knew they were hungry. So getting the win at their place is big.”

Junior Mark Dubow smoked a solid single up the middle to drive in Todd Vandercook and Nick Kopfman, who both also had hard singles, to make it 3-0. Andy Joseph then drove in Everett Barton with another single.

“That was real big coming over here and doing that,” Southview coach Ed Mouch said. “It makes the guys feel more comfortable. It makes Kirk a little more at ease. Mark's hit with two outs was key and then Andy coming through were critical aspects of the game.”
