Resiliency and an ill-fated roll of the dice paved the way to a 9-8 comeback victory for St. John's Jesuit over Central Catholic last night in City League baseball at Fifth Third Field.

When the 3-hour, 18-minute contest was complete, the guy who started things pitching for the Titans, finished them with his bat.

Jacob Ray grounded a one-out single past Irish second baseman Nik Tschantz to score Jesse Adams from third base with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Ray had earlier been the victim of his team's six errors, which led to five of Central's eight runs off of Ray being unearned. He exited the mound after 4 1/3 innings.

“We had a rough time, but we were still in the game,” Ray said. “We're always in it with our bats. I felt really fortunate to be up there and have a comeback from that outing. I was looking for something low and outside to hit the other way, and it worked, and Jesse jumped home.”

St. John's (9-0, 2-0 CL) rallied from an 8-5 deficit in the final three innings.
