Archbold's historic season continues against Laurel
11/9/2011Reaching the Division III state girls soccer semifinals for the first time in school history has the Archbold players and coaches trying to maintain their emotions.
That's added to the preparation process for Blue Streaks coach James Kidder and his coaching staff heading into Wednesday's showdown with Shaker Heights Laurel (14-5-1) at Clyde.
"Obviously, it's an exciting time for our team," said Archbold assistant coach Jennifer Kidder, who is James' wife. "They're really looking forward to it, but it's nerve-racking as well to get this far. It's been a combination of emotions."

The Archbold coaches said they've tried to "prepare like we have prepared all season long" during their state tournament run to avoid becoming overwhelmed by their unprecedented success.
The Blue Streaks (19-1-1), who have won 10 straight, knocked off Ontario 2-0 to claim their first regional championship. They had topped Lima Central Catholic 3-2 in a semifinal.
The Blue Streaks' best season in school history included a 0-0 tie at Continental, followed by a 3-0 loss at Kalida for the only blemishes on Archbold's record.
They're led by four seniors: goalie Nichole Wood, midfielder Mindy Rupp, and defenders Carley Wyse and Sierra Nofziger.
The Blue Streaks don't discuss goals, saves, or assists. It's only been about wins and losses.
"It's been a great group of girls that have worked well together," according to James Kidder. "We don't have any one hero. It is just a group of talented players."
