Maumee Valley's Deichert, Woodmore's Baer top state finishers

Rick Deichert of Maumee Valley Country Day and Ben Silverman of Ottawa Hills took their competition from the Toledo Area Athletic Conference all the way to the Division III state golf tournament.

Deichert, a senior, posted a two-round total of 159 to finish third at state, while Silverman, a sophomore, finished a stroke behind for fourth place.

Liberty Center's Cody Knapp tied for 32nd while helping his team finish seventh.

In Division II, Napoleon's Brandon Lambert finished tied for 17th, while teammate Jared Neiling placed 25th.

Bryan's Dalton Schulenberg posted a score of 173 to finish in a four-way tie for 20th as the Golden Bears placed 10th.

Among the girls, the top area finisher was Woodmore junior Mikayla Baer, who tied for fourth with a 155 in Division II.

St. Ursula freshman Kathryn Young placed 49th to lead the Arrows to an 11th place with a team score of 711 in Division I.
