Led by junior Cierra Dreslinski and sophomore Veronica Lugo, who captured titles in No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, Start won its first City League girls tennis championship Thursday at Jermain Park.
The Spartans totaled 15 points for the tournament, two ahead of runner-up Woodward.
The champion at No. 1 singles was Waite senior Kayla May, who defeated Start senior Ashley Bricker 6-4, 6-3 in the title match.
Bowsher's second doubles team of Rebecca Sheets and Brittanee Davis also won a league crown in their bracket.
Dreslinski defeated Woodward's Paula De La Lastra 6-1, 7-6 in the No. 2 final, and Lugo topped Bowsher's Kara Thornton 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 in the No. 3 singles final.
In No. 1 doubles, Emily Aossey and Angela Giovannucci of Rogers defeated Kimani Edwards and Anastasia Rubin of Woodward 6-4, 6-2, for the title.
