Rams claim crown in Detroit tourney as Sweeney’s 18 points leads Rogers; Cougars, Yellow Jackets victorious

Rogers 62, Detroit John Glenn 53

DETROIT — Cha'ron Sweeney scored 18 points to lead Rogers to a girls basketball victory Thursday night in the final of the Detroit Roundball Classic.

Sweeney was named most valuable player of the tournament.

Marquelle Williams added 12 points and Toriana Easley scored 11 for the Rams.

Raven Bankston scored 15 points and Raine Bankston scored 13 to lead John Glenn, the No. 3- ranked Class A team in Michigan.

Southview 74, Elida 51

ELIDA — Natalie Harlen and Sarah Klepzig each scored 14 points to lead Southview in the Elida Holiday Tournament.

Taryn Stanley and Lauren Huntsman added 13 each for the Cougars.

Olisha Owens and Kelly Downton paced Elida with 14 points each.

Perrysburg 72, Lima Shawnee 44

LIMA — Eleven different players scored as the Yellow Jackets (10-0) pulled away early for a road victory.

Maddy Williams led Perrysburg with 16 points and six steals, Sarah Baer finished with 12 points and six steals, and Allex Brown added 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Claire Dahlke scored a game-high 18 points to lead Lima Shawnee (5-4), which committed 26 turnovers.

Anthony Wayne 49, Otsego 26

TONTOGANY — Megan Bedard and Leah Mitchell scored nine points each to help Anthony Wayne (7-3) to a road win.

Morgan Smoyer paced Otsego (4-5) with 16 points.

Evergreen 51, Cardinal Stritch 46

METAMORA — Haili Mossing and Shawna Siefker both scored 14 points as the Vikings (3-6) defended their home court.

Abby Mass scored a game-high 17 points for Cardinal Stritch, which led 27-24 at halftime. Cecilia Gozdowski added 11 points.

Archbold 49, Napoleon 38

NAPOLEON — Hanna Hesterman scored 12, Cassidy Wyse 11 and Cassidy Williams 10 for the Blue Streaks.

Lindsay Ferguson led the Wildcats with 10..

Bowling Green 94, Scott 27

BOWLING GREEN — Chelsey Morlock scored 19 points and Reagan Morman added 18 points to lead the Bobcats (6-5).

Hanna Williford also scored 13 points and Tyanna Smith chipped in with 11 for Bowling Green.

Marlina Wilson led Scott (1-7) with nine points.

Swanton 52, Eastwood 26

PEMBERVILLE — The Bulldogs (4-4) behind Maicie Wheeler who scored 12 points grab the road victory.

Kelsey Weaver had nine for the Eagles (1-6).

Bedford 49, Dundee 26

CARLETON, Mich. — Nicole Rightnowar and Mallorie Sampson scored eight points each to lead Bedford to a victory in the Airport Invitational.

Natalie Ewing scored 10 points to lead Dundee.

Woodmore 43, Margaretta 39

ELMORE — Allie Wank scored 17 points and Mackenzie Johnson added 15 in the Wildcats’ home victory.

Kelsey Kromer finished with 17 points to lead Maragaretta (3-6), which was outscored 23-18 in the second half after leading 21-20 at the break. Paige Black added 10 points.
