Eastwood boys, girls sweep at Napoleon Invitational

NAPOLEON — All-around depth for Eastwood’s track teams led to the Eagles sweeping the boys and girls titles on a cold and breezy Saturday at the Napoleon Invitational at Buckenmeyer Stadium.

Eastwood’s Isaiah Conkle and Devin Snowden led the Eagles boys, who won the eight-team competition with 176.5 points.

Conkle, named the boys’ most outstanding track performer, swept the 100 and 200-meter races with winning times of 11.21 and 23.52, respectively. He also ran a leg on the 400 relay team that streaked to victory with a time of 44.48.

Snowden was named the boys’ most outstanding field events performer after winning the long jump by tying the meet record (22-9.75), finishing first in the 300 hurdles (41.90) and running on the winning 400 relay team.

“It’s been more of a team effort this year with everyone going out and doing their part,” Conkle said.

Eastwood’s Blake Kohring showed well in the 110 hurdles, crossing the finish line first in a time of 15.45.

Archbold’s 800 relay was declared the winner with a time of 1:36.54 after Perrysburg’s relay, which actually finished first, was disqualified for a lane violation. Archbold’s Isaac Burkholder won the discus with a toss of 141-7.

Archbold’s Levi Wyse led from start to finish to win the 400 (52.54), and New Haven’s Austin Feipel won the 800 (2:03.52). Defiance’s Ben Rath won the 1600 (4:31.69) and teammate Alex Barrientos took the 3200 (10:10.65).

New Haven’s Elliott Nelson claimed victory for the high jump (6-0), and Archbold’s Darin Sauder won the pole vault (12-8).

Perrysburg’s Sean Connor won the shot put (43-4.50).

The Eagles girls team didn’t claim a single individual event win, but still had the most points among eight teams with 112.75. Napoleon finished runner-up with 109.41 points.

“As a group, I thought we did a really nice job,” said Eastwood girls coach Nikki Sabo, whose team registered wins for the pole vault relay (24 feet) and long jump relay (45 feet, 9 inches).

Aricka LaVoy’s second-place finish in the long jump (16-0.75) and Elise Wolff’s second-place effort (9-feet) in the pole vault were the Eagles’ top individual efforts.

Bowling Green’s Maria Horrigan received the girls outstanding field events performer award after winning the pole vault with a meet record of 11 feet and taking first in the long jump with an effort of 16-1. Defiance’s Samantha Murray swept the 200 (26.79 ) and 400 (59.94) to take home the girls outstanding track performer award.

“I thought it was a pretty good day,” Horrigan said. “It was cold, so you just had to tough it out.”

Napoleon’s Peyton Lee helped the Wildcats’' cause by winning the girls 100 hurdles (16.10), while Wauseon’s Senecca Wyse topped the field to win the 100 (13.22).

Perrysburg’s Courtney Clody put together a strong kick over the final 70 meters of the 800 to hold off Wauseon’s Taylor Vernot for a victory.

Clody won with a time of 5:25.07 and Vernot ran second at 5:25.68. Perrysburg’s Taylor Monheim finished third (5:27.02).

Vernot returned to the track and ran away from the competition to win the 3200 (11:46.74). Indians teammate Aneesa Volkman came in a distant second (12:22.54). The Yellow Jackets’ Emily Wyrick won the 800 (2:21.96).

Archbold’s Jensyn Garrow, Meredith Short, Alicia Hernandez, and Kassidy Garrow won the girls 800 relay (1:51.91). Defiance’s Samantha Murray halted Lee from sweeping the sprint events by claiming the 200 (26.79), while Lee ran a close second (26.85).

Napoleon’s Kenzie Silcox claimed victory in the 300 hurdles (50.92).

New Haven’s Joneisa Brown won the shot put (36-4), and Miranda Braun topped the competition in the discus (110-7).

BG’s Kyrha Hollins took first in the high jump (4-10).
