Wauseon girls, Bryan boys win titles; LC sweeps

LIBERTY CENTER — The Wauseon girls dominated the Division II district cross country meet behind a first-place finish from Taylor Vernot (18:08.59) and a second place by Kylie Archibeque (19:25.24).

Napoleon was second, Liberty-Benton third, and Otsego fourth. All four qualify for the regional.

The Bryan boys won behind a third-place finish by Jacob Will (16:15.44). Otsego took second behind champion Brandon Avers (15:50.50). Wauseon and Oak Harbor rounded out the top four.

In Division III, the Liberty Center girls had the top four finishers on the way to a first place team finish.

Brittany Atkinson (18:19.38) took first, Olivia Kundo (19:11.95) second, Jenna Vollmar (19:14.92) third, and Paige Chamberlain (19:45.08) fourth.

Joining Liberty Center in regionals will be Toledo Christian, after the Eagles took third. Morgan Dembowski led the way with a sixth place finish (20:10.20).

Liberty Center’s Cameron Weaks turned in a time of 16:29.95 to win the Division III boys race as the Tigers cruised to a first place finish. Three other Tigers finished in the top 15.

Colin Burns (16:57.42) placed ninth, Kyle Nash (17:08.85) 13th, and Vince Pinson (17:09.71) 14th. Nick Jones of Delta finished second (16:32.61) as the Panthers finished fourth. Toledo Christian’s Kevin Loeffler placed 10th with a time of 16:58.61.

Eastwood girls take first in Division II

OTTAWA — The Eastwood girls won the Division II district behind a first-place finish by Hannah Sponaugle (19:47.4) and Maddie Jackson (2nd, 20:01.2).

The Eastwood boys will also move on to regional action after a third-place team effort as Tim Hoodlebrink (16:59.8) finished seventh.

In the Division III race, the Holgate girls placed third, behind a fourth-place finish by Gabbi Willett (20:28.5) and a fifth-place finish by Emma Willett (20:29.4).

Put-In-Bay’s Kowalski captures D-III district

GALION — Elliot Kowalski of Put-In-Bay ran a 17:32.44 to win the Division III district boys race.

The Woodmore boys placed second as a team, with Ryan Ayers (17:38.87) taking third place. Elmwood took third with the top finisher Cheyne Jenkins (17:52.46) in fifth.

Rachell Resnick of Van Buren won the girls race in 20:25.88, while Elmwood finished third.

The Royals' top finisher was Madison Sears (14th, 22:06.09).
