Genoa gains outright title

4 top 100 yards rushing; Comets’ 5th 10-0 season in 6 years

Genoa 88, Woodmore 14

GENOA — Four players eclipsed 100 yards rushing Friday night as the Comets punctuated their second straight 10-0 regular season to capture the Nothern Buckeye Conference championship for the second year in a row.

Casey Gose (174 yards rushing) and Jake Wojciechowski (140) scored two and three touchdowns, respectively. Ryan Espinoza had 136 yards and three TDs, while David Nutter totaled 109 yards and a TD.

Also scoring on TD runs were Cody Pickard, Logan Scott, and Donte McClure.

The Comets (10-0, 7-0) have had five perfect regular-season records in the last six years.

During the last seven years, Genoa has won six titles (four in Suburban Lakes League) with a 68-2 regular-season mark.

The Comets amassed 668 yards and 12 rushing TDs on 64 carries. Genoa, which led at halftime 58-6, scored points on 13 of their 14 offensive possessions. Pickard kicked a 23-yard field goal.

Woodmore (6-4, 3-4) had 169 rushing yards and TDs of 58 and 70 yards from quarterback Jake Matwiejczyk. He completed 11 of 38 passes for 80 yards.

Genoa’s Alex Hayes intercepted two passes.

 

Rossford 42, Elmwood 14

John Allen completed 14 of 22 passes for 249 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs (6-4, 4-3) at home. He also ran for a 25-yard score.

Dylan Losiewicz caught four passes for 121 yards, which included TD receptions that covered 68 and 25 yards. Ryan Reed and Nate Childress caught the other touchdown passes for Rossford, which also got a 37-yard TD run from Noah Asmus (seven carries, 58 yards).

Elmwood (1-9, 1-6) scored 14 fourth-quarter points on short TD runs by Austin Isaacs (15 carries, 75 yards) and Nick Gillett.

 

Lake 41, Fostoria 0

FOSTORIA — Jared Rettig completed 8 off 11 passes for 145 yards and four touchdowns for the Flyers.

Rettig connected on scoring passes of 12 and 23 yards to Todd Walters and 15 and 34 yards to Adam Duncan.

Brandon Short blew through the Redmen (0-10, 0-7) for 230 rushing yards and TD runs of 22 and five yards for Lake (8-2, 5-2).

 

Eastwood 47, Otsego 13

TONTOGANY — Devin Snowden carried 22 times for 163 yards, including a four-yard touchdown, as Eastwood cruised.

Grant Geiser added TD runs of 20 and 34 yards on his way to 91 yards rushing. Eli Brown rushed for a four-yard score for the Eagles (8-2, 6-1).

Jake Schmeltz connected with Michael Flipse on TD passes of 38 and 10 yards. Schmeltz also scored on a one-yard run.

Cody Downs led Otsego (4-6, 2-5) with 242 yards passing and a 78-yard TD strike to Cole Gorski. Downs also scored on a five-yard run.

Gorski finished with 12 catches for 249 yards.
