Muskegon's Deshaun Thrower wins Michigan's Mr. Basketball award; Signed to play at Stony Brook

DETROIT — Deshaun Thrower of Muskegon High School has been named Michigan’s Mr. Basketball.

He was presented with the award Monday.

The 6-foot-1 point guard finished ahead of Justin Tillman of Detroit Pershing and Ypsilanti’s Jalen Johnson of Ypsilanti.

Thrower is the first player from Muskegon to win the award and the only Mr. Basketball winner from the state to sign a letter of intent to attend Stony Brook University in New York. He averaged 18.7 points and 6.4 assists this season.

Muskegon has advanced to the Class A quarterfinals the state playoffs, setting up a matchup against Ann Arbor Skyline on Tuesday night.

Thrower was named The Associated Press Division 1-2 Co-Player of the Year in football.
