Jackets, Cougars show off strengths at regional track meet

AMHERST, Ohio — Perrysburg’s girls and Southview’s boys reigned over the competition in the Northern Lakes League this spring, then ran with that momentum at the Division I regional track championships on Friday at Steele High.Both competed well enough to earn regional runner-up trophies. Perrysburg, paced by senior Courtney Clody, placed second with 51 points, only four points shy of champion Cleveland St. Joseph Academy’s 55 total points. Southview, led by senior Malcom Johnson, ran second in the boys competition with 64 points, seven points short of Berea-Midpark’s 71. Demaline’s dedication pays off with trip to state track meet

TIFFIN — Nick Demaline gave up the distractions in pursuit of his biggest goal. Whether it meant forgoing graduation parties or putting in extra time in the weight room, the senior on the Liberty Center boys track and field team made note of his sacrifices. He knew he had one more thing to accomplish.Friday at the Division III track regional at Tiffin Columbian, Demaline got it.The Western Kentucky recruit won the regional title in the boys shot put with a Division III-best mark of 68 feet, 10.5 inches, more than 17 feet ahead of second-place finisher Kevin Crowe of Lakota (51-5).
