A half-dozen seniors are on the Perrysburg roster. It was fitting on Senior Night for the scoreboard at Steinecker Stadium to display a 6-0 result in favor of the No. 1-ranked Yellow Jackets over Southview on Wednesday night.

The state's top Division I program had little trouble toppling its rival to improve to 14-0 overall and 6-0 in the Northern Lakes League.

Senior forward Maddy Williams led the way, scoring four goals — two in the first half and two in the second half — to give her 35 goals on the year. Mollie Whitacre, a senior midfielder, and Sarah Quimby, a junior, provided a goal apiece to help beat Southview (5-7-1, 3-2-1).

"They had a wonderful senior night," Perrysburg co-coach Jorge Diaz said. "Both Mollie Whitacre and Maddy Williams are the cornerstones of our team and they were able to score and assist. I was very happy for them."

Perrysburg produced its sixth straight shutout and 11th shutout of the season.

Perrysburg goalie Chloe Buehler didn't have much action around the Yellow Jackets’ goal throughout the match. She spent much of the time watching her teammates in front of her control the ball and the game's tempo.

"A solid effort from the defense to get another shutout," Perrysburg co-coach Margaret Bernard said. "Again, I think it's another all-around good effort."

The Yellow Jackets jumped ahead of the Cougars early by scoring three goals during the first half of the league match. Williams accounted for the first two goals before Quimby made it 3-0 with 10 minutes remaining in the first half.

Williams registered a hat trick when she scored with 37 minutes remaining in the second half to give the Yellow Jackets a 4-0 advantage. Her fourth goal of the night came when she scored with 10 minutes left.

Perrysburg's final goal came with just over four minutes left in the contest and Whitacre was able to get a shot by Southview goalie Sophia Asah.

Southview coach Amy Knepper said the Yellow Jackets present a difficult challenge for any opposing team.

"Basically, we tried to play well as a team defending," Knepper said. "We tried to keep their goal count down as much as possible. When we could go forward we tried to counter and get some things on the offensive end."

Williams and seniors Whitacre, Buehler, Sam Schrader, Alexa Long, and Alexa Camp, made the most of their final regular season home game. The Yellow face league rival Maumee (11-1-2, 4-0-2) on Oct. 10 to determine the NLL champion.
