City Boys: Spartans withstand big Bulldogs rally

Lake has record day against Genoa

Start 70, Scott 67

Dion Ivery paced Start with 19 points as the Spartans pulled out a home win on Friday in City League boys basketball.

The Spartans raced out to a 18-8 lead after the first quarter and led 36-25 at the half.

Scott Hicks and Keith Foreman each scored 12, and Dexter Johnson added 11 for Start.

J.R. Richardson scored 24 points to lead Scott, and Chris Harris added 15 points.

The Bulldogs came back furiously in the fourth quarter, outscoring Start 29-19, but couldn’t overcome the 13-point deficit they faced to begin the quarter.

Bowsher 120, Woodward 71

Bowsher's Aundre Kizer poured in 31 points as the Rebels opened league play by drubbing Woodward. The Rebels (3-0, 1-0) had five other players in double figures, including Nate Allen, who had 13 points to go along with his 11 rebounds. Cameron White had 18 points and nine steals.

Bowsher, which went into halftime leading 69-26, also got double-digit scoring from Jeff Jones, with 10 points, Jason Sandridge, 13, and Dajuan King 17.

Romoan Fane paced the Polar Bears (1-2, 0-1) with 21 points; Craig Kirkwood had 18 points.

Ottawa Hills 63, Northwood 19

Lucas Janowicz poured in 23 points and Geoff Beans added 15 points to help Ottawa Hills to an easy home win in a Toledo Area Athletic League opener.

Tyler Williams led Northwood with 10 points.

Emmanuel Christian 52,Danbury 32

Jason Regnier paced Emmanuel Christian (4-0, 1-0) with 16 points on the way to a home win.

Dominic Manuella scored nine points to lead Danbury (0-2, 0-1).

Maumee Valley 56,Gibsonburg 44

GIBSONBURG — David Brown scored a game-high 26 points, and Solomon Collins added 10 as Maumee Valley sprinted to a 14-point halftime lead and cruised to the road win.

Tyler Ernsthausen led Gibsonburg with 12 points, while Isaiah Arriaga and Jordan Kreglow each added 11.

Lima Senior 79, St. Francis 64

Rico Stafford scored 17 points to lead Lima Senior (2-1) to a road win in Three Rivers Athletic Conference league play. Ruben Flowers chipped in with 14 points, Isiah Simpson scored 13 and Damariante Dillingham added 10.

Jay Snell paced St. Francis (0-2) with 21 points.

Lake 118, Genoa 56

MILLBURY — Tyler Landis scored a school-record 40 points, and Lake set a team record for most points in a game in a Northern Buckeye Conference opener.

Connor Bowen added 20 points and a school-record 12 assists. Cody Witt scored 18 points, and Todd Walters and Jared Rettig scored 11 points apiece.

Amos Kander and Grant Adams led Genoa with 13 points each.

Rossford 65,Woodmore 56

ELMORE — Mack Miller scored 20 points and Derek Mack added 19 points to lead Rossford (1-1, 1-0).

Donny Bowen scored 21 points to pace Woodmore (1-2, 0-1).

Otsego 55,Eastwood 44

TONTOGANY — A.C. Limes poured in 17 points, John Thomas added 16, and Jerome Griffin added 10 to lead Otsego (2-0, 1-0) to the victory.

Jake Schmeltz led Eastwood (0-2, 0-1) with 23 points.
