St. John's Miller picked as lineman for U.S. national team
12/14/2012Matt Miller of St. John’s Jesuit has been named as one of nine offensive linemen for the 2013 U.S. Under-19 National Team, which will participate Feb. 5 in the International Bowl in Austin.
Miller, a 6-foot-5, 260-pound lineman, is one of two Ohio linemen selected to the national team.
Miller, who is verbally committed to Wisconsin, registered 33 pancake blocks as an offensive tackle and earned All-Ohio first-team honors. The 6-foot-5, 260-pound senior, also recorded 38 tackles, eight quarterback pressures, and two forced fumbles while seeing action as a defensive end.
Shaker Heights' Donovan Munger (6-4, 290), who is verbally committed to Ohio State, has also been selected for the team.
USA Football is the national governing body for the sports. The nonprofit organization is the official youth development partner with the National Football League, the 32 NFL teams, and the NFL Players Association.
Also, Ben Gedeon, a 6-3, 215-pound linebacker of Hudson, Mich., is a Michigan recruit set to play in the game. Detroit Cass Tech defensive back Jourdan Lewis (5-10, 159), also a Michigan recruit, was selected.
The U.S. team, which is comprised of some of the nation's top high school players, faces the International Federation of American Football world team that is made up of players age 19-and-under from 64 countries.
The U.S. Under-19 team owns a 7-2 record in international play, which includes a 2-1 showing in the International Bowl.
