Foreman paces Spartans; Start beats St. Francis; St. John’s wins in Mesa tourney

Start 85, St. Francis 74

Keith Foreman poured in 22 points and Dion Ivery added 16 to help the Start to a home win Thursday night in boys basketball.

Scottie Hicks scored 13, Richie Lynn 12, and Mike Mitchell 10 for the Spartans (5-3).

Pat Szenderski scored 13 points to pace St. Francis (0-6). Mark Beauch added 12 and Kevin Metzger scored 11 for the Knights.

St. John’s 62, Mercer Island 61

MESA, Ariz. — Trevor Walsh made two free throws in overime that proved to be the difference for the Titans in the VisitMesa.com Basketball Challenge.

Marc Loving poured in 32 and Austin Gardner 16 for the Titans (7-2). Mercer Island, Wash. (8-1) was led by Kaleb Warner with 21 and Joe Rasmussen with 18.

Springfield 58, Clay 41

Curtis Hassell and Christian Jackson each scored nine points to lead Springfield to a road win.

Chase Bidra paced Clay with 11 points.

Rossford 52, Swanton 49

Mack Miller scored 12 points and Derek Mack added 10 points to help Rossford to a home win.

Rossford outscored Swanton 18-10 in the final quarter.

Vernon Williams paced Swanton with 16 points, Rocky Robinson added 14 points and Paul Kennedy scored 10 points.

Gilbert (Ariz.) 58, St. John's 55

MESA, Ariz. — St. John's couldn't hold on to a 17-point halftime lead and lost a tight opening game in the VisitMesa.com Basketball Challenge.

Marc Loving paced the Titans (6-2) with 17 points, while Austin Gardner added 10.

Conner Helvig led Gilbert (11-2) with 21 points and Tanner Reber scored 12 points.
