Cardinal Stritch has hired a football coach for the 2013 season after the contract of former coach Jim Kubuske was not renewed following a 1-9 finish last fall.

Brian Wical will take over the Cardinals’ helm after serving five years as an assistant coach at Division V state power Lima Central Catholic, where he the offensive coordinator for four seasons.

He helped the Thunderbirds to a 42-7 overall record during those four seasons, including back-to-back 10-0 regular seasons in 2011 and 2012 and a No. 1 state ranking in 2011. The T-Birds won 29 straight regular-season games during that stretch (2009 to present), won three Northwest Conference championships, and reached the 2010 Division V state playoff semifinals under head coach Jerry Cooper.

Wical is a 2010 graduate of Bluffton University.
