Southview swimming relay team sets school record at sectional meet

The Southview 400-yard freestyle team set a school record Saturday at a Division I sectional at Napoleon.

Freshman Morgan Hall led off the team, followed by junior Sheridan Palus, senior Sydney Lahre, and junior Pang Srinoikhao. The Cougars finished with a time of 3 minutes, 47.25 seconds — nearly four seconds faster than the previous record (3:51).

The Cougars accomplished the feat at the sectional meet at Napoleon.

Hall led off the relay and touched first in the heat to send off Palus, who lost a some ground but still had a great leg, according to Southview coach Jenna Feller.

After Sheridan’s leg the team was in third place in the heat. Lahre then maintained a third-place position.

Srinoikhao anchored the team and slowly caught up to the second-place team. By the end of the third length Srinoikhao had caught up to the leading team, St. Ursula, and raced to the finish.

The Cougars won by 0.12 seconds.

Napoleon won the overall girls team title with 494 points. Perrysburg was second (414.5), followed by Notre Dame (402), and St. Ursula (396).

Napoleon senior Makenzie Garringer broke her own meet record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.56 seconds. She also won the 100 backstroke (1:02).

St. Ursula sophomore Zhada Fields captured titles in the 200 free (1:54) and the 100 backstroke (0:58). Her sophomore teammate, Mikayla Murphy, also won two events — the 200 individual medley (2:15) and the 500 free (5:17).

Wauseon freshman Kasey Darnell won both the 200 free (2:04) and the 500 free (5:29).

Bryan sophomore Lauren Chaney captured the 200 individual medley (2:19) and the 100 breaststroke (1:12).

St. Francis de Sales won the boys title with 644.5 points. Napoleon placed second (581), followed by Southview (353) and Bryan (300).

St. Francis junior Jack DiSalle won two events — the 200 free (1:49) and 100 free (0:49). Knights junior Jack Barone won the 200 IM (2:02) and the 100 breaststroke (1:00).

Napoleon senior Adam Carrol took first in the 200 free (1:54) and 500 free (5:02).

Central Catholic senior Austin Axe won both the 50 free (0:23) and 100 back (0:59).

In the Division I sectional at Fremont, the Findlay boys dominated led by senior Dietrich Hinesman, who set a meet record in the 50 free with a time of 21.90. Hinesman also won the 100 free (48.99)

Findlay senior Kyle Hopkins won the 200 IM (2:05) and the 100 back stroke (52.23).

Findlay freshman Justin Hopkins won the 200 free (1:47) and the 500 free (4:52).

On the girls side at Fremont, Port Clinton junior Cheyenne Meek set meet records in the 50 free (24.29) and the 100 free (53.99).

Whitmer senior Kristin Filby won the 200 IM (2:13) and was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:08).

Fremont Ross freshman Morgan Waggoner won the 100 butterfly (1:00) and 100 backstroke (1:00.58), which was a meet record.

Lake senior Adriana Cannon set a sectional record in the 100 butterfly (59.67) and was second in the 200 free (2:01).

Maumee junior Morgan Brebberman won the 500 free (5:22) and was second in the 200 free (1:59).

The district meets will be Saturday at Bowling Green State University.
