ABOUT THE TEAM:
Coach: Greg Bishop, first year
Last season: 2-8, 1-6 MAL
Returning letter winners: 15
Returning starters: Offense 6, defense 6
Schemes: Spread/3-4
Top players: Senior Brandon Solly, 5-9, 155, DB-W.; Junior Lane Bishop, 5-10, 175, WR. Sophomore Zach Meggit, 6-1, 2-5, DL-OL. Freshman Taylor Bishop, 5-8, 185, RB.
Outlook: Bishop, 24, takes over a program that went 14-56 since its last winning season in 2005.
Bishop, a Tiffin Columbian graduate, coached recently as an assistant in Stafford (Va.). He went to Bowling Green State University and was an intern with the Falcons football program.
Bishop inherits a team with only 23 players but six returning starters on both sides of the ball. The Tigers will transition to the spread from the Wing-T.
Brothers Lane Bishop and Taylor Bishop, who are not related to the coach, look to fill the offensive power left by the graduation of Dalton Ishmael (670 yards), while Bishop will also rely on Meggit a Solly.
"The kids are starting to believe in what we’re trying to do," Bishop said. "We don’t have a lot of numbers, but all of those kids are here in the weight room. Our weight program is very tough. We’re starting to see a light bulb turn on and they’re starting to believe."
