It used to be that if you wanted a condominium on the water, with a boat dock outside your back door and a clubhouse with a pool nearby, you had to move to Florida. That was then. This Waterside in Monclova Township is now.

Waterside has been planned with the over-55 resident in mind, but make no mistake. This is not your grandma s house.

The exterior of the home, located at 7149 Longwater, is clad in vinyl cedar-look shingles and stone. Step inside, and the home shows its quality immediately in the nine-foot ceilings with crown molding and wide center hall. What is not nearly as apparent is even more important: this home is an Energy Star PLUS home, meaning that the builder has followed energy efficient guidelines set down by the U.S. government. Not every home receives this designation, but then, not every builder uses insulated Anderson windows with Low E and argon gas, or a high efficiency furnace, or a 13 SEER air conditioner, or R-38 insulation in the ceiling and R-17 in the walls. Waterside does.

To the right of the foyer, behind a tall, mullioned door, is the den/office. This classic room has a vaulted ceiling with a fan for added comfort. To the left is a short hall that leads to a double closet, the staircase to the basement, a two-car garage with pulldown stairs for easy access to attic storage, and a utility room with cabinets and a sink. Also off this hall is a full bath with a granite-topped maple vanity, and the first of two bedrooms.

The formal dining room is just off the home s gracious center hall. Perhaps it is the tall ceilings, the abundance of crown molding, or even the fact that it is not directly in view of the kitchen, but this dining room imparts an Old World feel similar to that found in much older homes.

The center hall is home to a built-in buffet, with a lovely wine rack above. This is a perfect place to store table linens, barware, and serving dishes.

At the end of the hall is the great room, and great it is. To the left is the master bedroom; more about that in a moment. The great room has angled walls that seem to invite you into the room with open arms. On the left is a very handsome gas fireplace with marble surround and hearth and white wood mantel with dentil molding.

Across the room is the kitchen and space for informal dining. The kitchen looks like command central, with an impressive peninsula snack bar and rows of long, 42-inch maple cabinets topped with crown molding. The countertops are neither granite nor quartz, but an extra-sturdy combination of the two called Zodiac. Beyond the informal dining area is the sunroom. This space, with its view of the lake, angled back wall and ceiling fan above, really brings that resort feel home. Step out of the sunroom to the back porch and take in the view, or wave to the neighbors as they paddle by on the lake.

And now for the master bedroom. A spacious room, it is filled with light. It also offers access to the screened porch at the back of the home a wonderful place to enjoy a nightcap before retiring for the evening. A large walk-in closet is very handy, and the master bath has everything you need: a maple double vanity with granite countertop, tile flooring, and a private water closet. Settle into the large soaking tub, or step inside the walk-in shower they re both located here, too.

If you though about retiring to Florida, why bother? Waterside at Monclova doesn t offer 70-degree days in January, but you can experience resort-style living much closer to home and family. Just across the street from this beautiful home is a clubhouse with swimming pool, tennis, and fitness equipment. Two large lakes are easily accessible, and the East Lake is stocked with bass and perch for fishing. A hike and bike trail to Oak Openings Park is nearby.

Your $95 monthly maintenance fee includes snow removal, lawn care, your clubhouse fees and maintenance of all common areas.
