With a recession on, homebuilding has halted in many areas of Northwest Ohio. That s not so in Perrysburg s Brookhaven neighborhood, however, where homes are being built, grass is planted, and families are moving in. The first plat is in its final stages, and a new one is under construction. Recession? What recession?

A close look at the neighborhood and at the model home reveals why this area is so popular. Located off Five Point Road in Perrysburg, it is a short hop from the gleaming new Perrysburg High School and Levis Commons, with its many shopping, dining and entertainment options. When it is completed, the neighborhood will number 170 homes; presently, 60 are finished.

For instance, the model home, at 6139 Brookhaven Blvd., has a two-story foyer, highlighted by a graceful chandelier, providing an elegant welcome. A ceramic tile floor and a guest closet complete this space.

To the right is the formal dining room. An oil-rubbed bronze chandelier descends from the ceiling, and a large window opens the room considerably. Nearby are the steps to the full basement.

Straight ahead is the great room. A row of three windows is topped by transoms, allowing sunlight to stream into this tall room. The room is dominated by a gas fireplace with an oversize white wood mantel and tile surround.

Just off the great room is the eat-in kitchen. Sliding doors near the informal dining area lead to the patio, which is poured and stamped to match the front walkway.

The kitchen is both stylish and functional, with a center island snack bar. Maple cabinets have a sorrel finish and crown molding, and granite countertops make a bold statement. Pendant lights hang above the island and the sink, and recessed lighting offers greater illumination. GE stainless appliances include a refrigerator, oven, microwave and dishwasher. A large walk-in pantry provides storage.

A back hall leads to a powder room and the door to the garage, as well as a utility room with cabinets, a countertop and a sink. A closet is a convenient place to hang up coats when coming in through the garage.

The staircase to the second floor is located off the foyer. To the left are the first two bedrooms. Each has a tray ceiling and a double closet. Across the hall from these is a lovely bedroom with a cathedral ceiling. Next door is a full bath.

At the end of the hall is the master suite. A deep tray ceiling with fan adds height and interest to this room. In the spa-like master bath, a double vanity in maple with a sorrel finish has a white cultured marble top. A large garden tub sits under a barrel vaulted ceiling and delicate oil rubbed bronze chandelier. A step-in shower, private water closet, and walk-in closet complete the master bath.

To reach The Village of Brookhaven, take Route 25 just past Levis Commons to right on Roachton Road. Follow Roachton to Ft. Meigs Road and turn left. Pass Perrysburg High School, and turn right when you reach Five Point Road. The Village of Brookhaven is on the left.

The model home at 6139 Brookhaven Blvd. will be open Sunday, July 26 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. For a private appointment, call Rick Prokup of Sulphur Springs Realty at 419-345-8311.
