Now is the time to buy. Interest rates are low, and homes are more affordable than ever. Perfect examples are Lakeside Townhomes by McCarthy Builders.

The townhomes on Lakeside Drive in Monclova are stylish inside and out, exactly what you would expect from McCarthy Builders and Developers, one of the area’s premiere builders.

The model, 4711 Lakeside Drive, is a perfect showcase of McCarthy’s work. The homes rise two stories and are faced with vinyl siding, shake, and stone. Carriage house-look garage doors face the front; the mullioned front entry doors are tucked in alongside, protected from the weather.

Step inside to the foyer. The wall between each home is an eight-inch thick decorative brick that is stylish and functional. Ceramic tile in the entry is standard. A guest closet and indoor access to the garage are quite convenient here.

The first floor is home to a space the builder calls a bonus room.  In standard-equipped models, it is rough framed, and rough plumbed for a full bath. In the model home, the room and bath are finished, and there is a spacious walk in closet. This room could be used as a bedroom, fitness room, media room, child’s playroom, or simply for storage.  A door here opens to a concrete patio.

A wide staircase leads to the second floor. At the top of the stairs, a glass door leads to an inviting balcony. Immediately, one is struck by the view of the lake from here, a gorgeous sight in sunny and snowy weather alike. A bike trail beyond the lake is used frequently by cyclists, runners and walkers, and leads to the much-longer Wabash Cannonball Trail. Ducks and heron visit the lake; hawks can be seen riding the thermals farther off.

The great room’s large windows take in this view. An open floor plan allows you to position your furniture as you like. The kitchen is to the right, with a breakfast bar open to the great room. Red pendant lights hang over the bar and offer a dramatic splash of color.

The efficient kitchen has an urban appeal, with tall, ebony-finished Shaker-look cabinets with sleek brushed nickel hardware and granite countertops. The sink is on the peninsula countertop, and includes a pullout faucet. Two Lazy Susans offer convenience. A dishwasher, range and microwave hood in stainless look perfect here. A pantry around the corner provides additional storage.

Off the hallway is a full bath. Cultured marble sits atop a white wood vanity. The vinyl floor here looks like stone.

The master bedroom is off the hall to the right, and includes a walk in closet. Next to it is another, slightly smaller bedroom, with a double closet. One wall of each bedroom is the same decorative brick we saw below, topped with crown molding in chocolate stain.

A laundry closet adjacent to the bedrooms is one of the most convenient laundry rooms we’ve seen. There’s ample space for full capacity front-loading appliances.

Each of the townhomes has a 13 SEER air conditioner and a 95% efficient furnace. A homeowners’ association fee is just $89 a month and includes exterior building maintenance, underground sprinkler system, snow removal and lawn care.

Apartment dwellers might find the townhomes a more attractive and economical alternative to renting.  With today’s attractive financing rates, you’ll probably be amazed. One of the exciting aspects of buying here is the opportunity to have a fully-customized home at a very reasonable price. Choose your wall colors, carpet, countertops, cabinets and much more. And right now, the builder is offering free upgrades on popular features, worth up to $3,800. Be sure to ask for details.

The base price on the 1,474 square foot Aspen floor plan, like the model at Lakeside Drive, is $126,900; the slightly smaller Keystone floor plan starts at $119,900. The model townhome is open this Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  Additionally, it is open most Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment by calling Denis Cash at 419-376-0106.  Additional information, including floorplan layouts, photos, blogs and more, can be viewed at www.mccarthybuilder.com.
