StarCraft II delayed, and O'Brien gets pwned by late-night rival

8/10/2009

Welcome to the new Blade blog Culture Shock, a three-times-a-week riff by Pop Culture Editor Kirk Baird on pop culture news, events, and trends. The blog will appear Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings here, with the odd night or off-day posting if something is merited.

Some news of note with brief commentary:

StarCraft II delayed again. This game was at the top of my wish list for 2009. Now it ll go to the top of my 2010 wish list. (SIGH)

David Letterman is the new king of late night. I m not surprised. Just as Letterman was too for middle America, the same can be said of the new Tonight Show host, Conan O Brien. Now, in a strange twist of fate, Letterman is considered the more mainstream talk-show host.

So Paramount doesn t screen G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra for movie critics knowing full well that there s a better-than-average chance we won t like the movie.

It didn t matter.

So, could the long-rumored Apple Tablet PC, which may be released next month if at all be another gamer-changer for the Cupertino company? Maybe. There ll be plenty of early adopters, but $500-$700 for a tablet? In this economy?

This just in: album sales are down. Again.
